Was on the NW Upsalquitch this past weekend and was not very impressed. FYI, 5" long spoons aren't supposed to be in a salmon pool. We found 2 in upper 9 mile. Met a lady at upper 6 mile on the full day of our crown reserve. She walked out of the bank wearing waders and holding spin gear. Said she was fishing trout in a nearby brook. I think we surprised her when we had run the river with canoes. I may have passed it off as extremely odd had it not been for everything that was observed. Ran into a family that was looking "for a spot to fish trout" that came into the crown reserve campsite. After telling them that it was crown reserve and fly fishing only they left. Thought it was an honest mistake/ignorance, then saw them spin fishing at the Fidel Legace Bridge at the top of Cravens. Co-worker had the stretch just before us (Thursday-Saturday). Two different groups came in and with spin gear. One group fished just upper 9 mile. The other group showed up the next day and fished upper and lower 9 mile. There will be no fish left if this type of behaviour keeps up. Enforcement seems frustrated by FNs being able to invoke rights outside of fisheries agreements with no reporting on harvest levels. Combine this with the ever increasing number of individuals who are excercising these rights there becomes confusion and apathy over who is poaching and who has status rights. So wh y bother at all? Bloody frustrating. Crown reserves should be protected from open harvest. We will see the closure of fisheries even on the Restigouche.... Yes, I reported to DFO, DNR and RWMC

That can really sour a trip , a lot of this sort of thing on the SE branch . Weekends are to be avoided for this reason , a little bit of enforcement would go a long way.

We didn't see any Enforcement at Crawford a couple weeks ago either - and you can usually bet on a visit from them if you're at Depot or Crawford!

that is the primary reason I stopped going to the SE Upsalquich. It gets pounded hard by FN and bait chuckers
DNR came to the camp over the Canada Day long weekend when we were at Cruickshank 2 trips to the Live Release stretches and no DNR seen

She's a free for all boys, FN and the half million newly minted "metis" know it.
No enforcement, confusion over rules and no balls being displayed by anyone with any kind of influence who might have half a chance to make things better for salmon.

Jason, just out of curiosity - have you checked out these guys? www.salmonnb.com/They have no issue calling problems out - like FN/metis fishing rights. Tom Pettigrew is the main guy behind them - you should let him know what you saw. Playing nice and the status quo has gotten us absolutely nowhere... groups need to stop playing the long game because we're out of time.

Had a big break and went on a family vacation to the Gaspe, so sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for the info Howie. Didn't realise they were pursuing changes to the FSC agreements. I will pass the info along to Tom. Much appreciated.

Can't imagine throwing spoons and jigging fish holding in these areas. These areas should not be treated as open water under the FSC agreements and crown reserves should be treated as limited access in order to guarantee some protection for these fish. Attached is a picture from the barrier at 10 mile which gets harrassed as well. I see the Moisie Salmon Club is in for a fight with the local First Nations: Quebec Innu signal intent to claim prime fishing location at posh private lodge
