Well, I was more of a reader than a poster on the nsflyguy site and here I am posting already.... Kind of ironic starting a thread about a NS river on an NB website so soon in it's infancy.
So I am heading on down to the Margaree Forks area around the second week in July to do some geneaology research, but I'm fitting in some time on the river. I have never fished there and was wondering if anyone can give me a little advice on best pools for that time of the year, lesser known accommodations (I have tried the Normaway, Crantons, etc. but no vacancy - staying with relatives one night in the Kenloch area and another night closer to the river), best way to pick up a non-resident license (I live in NB), etc. I know there are only a handful of members on this site so far, but there might be a few bluenosers amongst you.
Thanks in advance.

There was a pools map released on a recent ASF river notes.
It may be helpful.

Hello, You might want to try river trail cottages which are very near crantons. I have stayed at both and river trail cottages are on a par with crantons.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice. I have a paper copy of the pools map, which helps some.
Looks like our trip has been postponed, or at least relocated. We will be fishing here in New Brunswick this weekend, with the Margaree trip tbd.

I'm heading to the Margaree this Saturday and staying for a week, I expect to get a little fishing in. Any tips/must know items for a Margaree virgin?

Hi Howie, Good luck on your trip to the Margaree, it is a beautiful river in a gorgeous spot. Unless they have had water recently it is likely to be quite low. I have fished the Margaree and the Middle for 30 years but for trout not salmon but there are others better qualified to suggest which pools to hit etc. Have a great time and enjoy the beauty that will surround you. Tight lines, Howie.

Howie, while I have never fished the Margaree, I had been gathering info for the trip that never happened. The pools suggested to me as "good" pools were Etheridge, Wash, Creamery and the Forks. There is a pool map online somewhere. I'll post the link if I can find it. Found it... www.margareesalmon.ca/margaree-river-map/

Never got to fish the Margaree, but a few years back I did snorkel Lower Tompkins and Ross Bridge. Two really nice pools not to be over looked as well.
I would fish Ross Bridge just because it looks awesome and it holds fish. Keep us posted on how you do!

Made it to NS and staying about an hour away from Margaree Forks. Going to try to score a license some place today and hopefully hit the river tomorrow. I'm thinking even if the water's low the temps here aren't that bad - got down to 12C overnight last night - plan is to hit the lower pools with small wet flies and giver hell.

What a scenic place, but BOY do I love and appreciate New Brunswick --- PRIVATE water included.
