I know most of you are salmon fishermen and are keen on sharing your knowledge and experience. Some time ago I was surrounded by ladies that I used to work with and as we were talking and laughing I told them I felt like the thorn among the roses. Being surrounded by salmon fishermen and me being a trout fisherman It gives me a similar feeling of being that thorn again....LOL. Like you, I miss Mark's site but hopefully the site that Howie has started will grow to be a wonderful resource for both salmon and trout fishermen. Most of my fishing is on streams and rivers in NS and all C&R but if I can help I will. When it comes to showing off my trout flies that won't happen, not with the likes of Stephen and Howie looking at them...lol. Tight lines everyone.

Hey Tim. I can't speak for everyone here, but I am willing to bet that the pursuit of trout eventually led them to the pursuit of salmon, in most cases. If you've ever felt the tug, you will be hooked...good to make your acquaintance.

Thank you, Jonah. I have caught salmon before and enjoyed the tussle but I love my trout fishing on light weight gear. There is something about fishing for trout that just does it for me more than any other specie. I guess I am a dyed in the wool trout fisherman...lol.

I definitely started out trout fishing and enjoy it immensely. However, most of the 'decent' trout I manage to stumble across are hooked while salmon fishing and 9/10 times there's a #4 or #6 carter bug tied on

With Howie on this one and Tim, dont worry about the flies buddy we are all doing the same thing, tying dead things on a hook. I will reiterate what I have said for years, no one really ties a bad fly,we just tie different

With Howie on this one and Tim, dont worry about the flies buddy we are all doing the same thing, tying dead things on a hook. I will reiterate what I have said for years, no one really ties a bad fly,we just tie different Totally agree! So my 10 yr old has taught himself to tie flies...and up till now I thought OK - not bad. Last week before heading to Crawford - my dad asked him to tie him a couple Allie Shrimp's - as he has done well on the NW with that fly. I got up one morning and saw two Allie's on the Island in the kitchen and asked my wife who was in my tackle box - as they totally looked like a purchased flies! I sent a pic to Jonah and he said - get him started on Green Machines! So I told him what Jonah said and the morning I got up to go to Crawford I saw two green machines on the Island - and they looked AWESOME - although I thought they were on a bigger hook that I would've used (although trimmed nice like Howie's! ) and the krystal flash tails were a little long. So I amused him and threw them in my flybox. Monday afternoon my dad and uncle were going to the barrier so I loaded a cooler and got them to drop me off at Black and White pool. I could see some fish holding and threw all my "go to's"(including my GMwWT) at them with no luck. So I sat and had a beer and looked threw the flybox and said why not and threw on his GM after trimming the tail. Third cast and WAMMO - another feisty grilse! So - I agree - none of us really tie "bad flies" - we just tie differently!
