Thought we could start a thread for updates from the Miramichi. Full moon tides should be bringing in some fish. Any reports?

Sweet! Good to hear! Heard some good first hand reports from the head of tide on the MSW. Apparently hooking them on the tides in the AM.

Was over to the Dungarvon on Saturday. Saw one small grilse hooked and had another nice salmon come up and look over a bomber, but no dice. Could see in most of the pools and didn't see any other fish. We ran into two other guys on the river and they didn't see anything besides the small grilse we watched them hook. We need rain to draw the fish in. Heard Quarryville was pretty quiet as well late in the week including Saturday. Again, we need rain!

Was on the LSW and Renous Jul 4 and 5. Nothing, not even a splash. Water warmed up too much so headed home early.

Heard a really discouraging report from Charlie's Rock and North Pole from a party in there July 4-6. They didn't see a fish in Charlie's or Palisades. Nothing in Anthony's hole. No fish in the camp log for this year.
They are either coming on the tides this week with the full moon (traditional grilse run timing) or there isn't much for numbers this year.

This will be the week that should start to really indicate the run this year. Even if it is warm, then there should still be fish enter at least the lower river. On the MSW water like Quarryville, Country Haven water, Mountain Channel, Rapids etc. should report fish. Millerton and Cassilis numbers should go up substantially as well.
Fingers crossed...

Was on the South Renous June 27 - saw one fish.
Just spent 4 days in Upper Blackville and we hooked 5 grilse.
We paddled Blissfield to Upper Blackville yesterday afternoon and saw some fish...they were moving yesterday afternoon. We probably saw 50ish fish in a short stretch in the Blissfield area - all moving fish as we were seeing them between pools in about 1-2ft of water. We saw fish in places you would not normally expect to see fish as well. They were in pods of 4-8 fish (mixture of grilse and salmon). Once it got cloudy it was difficult to see fish.
There were no fish caught at Mountain Channel on Wed and Th.
Up next - Crawford July 16.

That is a bit of encouraging news. I know a guy who got into a few fish in the Upper Blackville area on Saturday. Hopefully, this is the beginning with more on the move.

Had some luck at 94 early this week in a down pour. Very few locals out from MOn-Wed which to me suggests conditions not ideal. We fished early mornings and late evenings for about an hr each time and almost always had the pool to ourselves. No luck at Bluestone but colleagues were swimming at the tail while I fished. Couple of aggressive beavers there too, they come very close to you- watch out

Fished Friday pm, Saturday and Sunday am on the MSW and Renous. The water was low and warm, in spite of cool evenings. Saw a few fish around, but most were sleeping and not in a taking mood. Yesterday morning though we had some fun. My brother and I each landed a grilse. That was a great way to end our trip. The rivers need rain though. I am going to try and attach an image of the grilse I caught yesterday. I have been fishing for salmon for almost 15 years now and I have never seen anything like this. The fish had a huge chunk of flesh missing from his side. And when I mean huge, I mean I don't know how he was even alive to take my fly in the first place. He took like a healthy fish and fought like a healthy fish and he swam away like a healthy fish when I released him, but the poor guy hasn't got a hope of lasting a season in the river if you ask me. I'm going to start calling him the zombie salmon. The trauma seemed too severe to be caused by a net or a bird of prey. It looks fairly recent, so I am going to suggest maybe a harbour seal. Interested to hear what you guys think.

Great to see this discussion alive and well! I've see holes through fish - like a talon might make, but never anything like this - the poor fella. I fished all week last week on the NW and tribs, including a crown reserve trip in the mix (Narrows). All rivers are desperate low but we managed to see plenty of fish and hooked quite a few as well. The fish we saw at the narrows were a mix of VERY large salmon, average salmon and grilse, with grilse in the minority. I'm sure we saw at least 2 different, "nearly 4 footers". Ran into a "nearly 6 footer" at groundhog landing but that's another story
